Privacy policy
Updated 10/06/2026
StoryFM is a free place to listen to stories, on the web and in the mobile app. This page explains what we store, why, and how you control your data.
In short
Listening needs no account. We show no ads, sell no data and use no third-party trackers.
Without an account
- Your library (saved series, what you're listening to) and listening positions stay on your device; they are not sent to our servers.
- To count plays and listening time, the player sends a random id created on your device. The server only keeps a salted hash of it, so it can't be traced back to you or your device.
With an account
- Your email (to sign in), display name, and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- Saved series, where you stopped in each episode and your new-episode alert settings, to sync them across devices.
- Your sign-ins: the kind of device (browser and system, or app version) and when it was last used, so you can see which devices are signed in.
- If you apply to become an author: your pen name and what you write in the application.
Technical data
- IP addresses are used briefly to prevent abuse (sign-in attempt limits, fake plays) and are deleted after a few hours.
- Cookies and browser storage keep you signed in and remember your language and light/dark theme. There are no advertising cookies.
Third-party services
We only use services needed to run the site: storage for audio and images, email delivery for sign-in codes, and Google or Apple when you choose to sign in with them. Each receives only the data that job needs.
Your rights
On the Account page (on the web or in the app) you can change your name, sign out of your other devices and delete your account. Deleting it permanently erases your email, library, listening positions and sign-ins.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
